Our Message: About

Mission Statement

Our mission is to drive systemic change through education, policy, and community-driven action, to create a just, sustainable future for all.

Our Organization

The New Jersey Student Climate Advocates (NJSCA) is a coalition of students driven by a mission to make space for justice in mainstream climate policy efforts by researching environmental justice policy and partnering with communities. We are seeking individuals with interests in environmental/climate policy research and development, visual design and social media, communication, and/or community outreach, all guided by principles of environmental/climate justice.

We previously worked with members of the NJ state legislature to develop a carbon pricing policy proposal, 94-page policy research paper, and draft legislation.

Our Projects

Currently, NJSCA is working on a team-wide initiative titled the Nutrition x EJ project. All of our teams are working on ways to further education and advocacy at the intersection of food insecurity and environmental justice in New Jersey.

  • Our Policy Engagement team is working on a white paper outlining the research on these two issues and a quantitative assessment of regions of food desertification and overburdened communities on the state and national level.

  • Our Community Action team is working on in-person volunteering and community group outreach and collaborations.

  • Our Publicity team is working on creating social media posts for education on this issue.

As a team, we hope to work alongside environmental justice groups to understand and educate more people about the effect of food shortages and proximity to healthy food options on marginalized communities across the state.
